THE eastbound carriageway of the A40 was closed temporarily last night (18th August) as emergency services responded to a car fire.

Traffic built up for more than half a mile before being allowed to pass the smouldering Vauxhall.

Fire crews and police attended the scene, roughly half a mile from the Raglan/ Abergavenny junction.

A spokesperson from South Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed that Usk and Monmouth crews attended the scene, with the car already well alight on their arrival at 5.21pm.

Two hose reel jets and breathing apparatuses were used.
