MONMOUTH Town's under-14s junior football team played local rivals Garden City in the Gwent County Cup semi-final last Saturday (14th March).

All of Monmouth's cup rounds had given them home advantage, and the sports ground played host to a hard fought victory for the Monmouth club.

Sean Swann Mcbride had scored Town's only goal in normal time with one in reply from Garden City, taking the tie into extra time with everything to play for.

As always, there was the prospect of a penalty shoot-out looming large, before Andrew Beams decided the tie with a goal to send Monmouth into the final.

The final of the Gwent County Cup will take place on Sunday 3rd May where Monmouth will be up against Griffithstown.

The under-14s are the second of Monmouth Town's football clubs junior teams to reach a cup final this season and, with two teams still involved in semi-finals due to take place, there's a possibility that more teams could be competing for silverware before the season is out.
