Reigning champions, Dingestow, were in joint second place in the league going into this match, one of four teams on 28 points.

Caerwent had edged in front on 30 points, winning three of their five matches, as had Dingestow, Devauden, Mathern and Usk.

In round 6 of the Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls Association League, Caerwent held their position at the top with an 8-2 home win against Mathern, while Dingestow kept up the chase with an 8-2 away win at Magor.

Little Mill moved into third with an impressive 10-0 victory against Devauden, giving them 32 points, four behind Dingestow.

But early league leaders, Usk, suffered an 8-2 defeat away at Caldicot, who move into fourth on 31 points.

This week the final round of matches in the first half of the season sees leaders Caerwent visit Usk, while Dingestow host Mathern.

Caldicot and Devauden also have home matches, against Little Mill and Magor, respectively.

The season then takes a break until the next round of matches start again on January 12.

Further information on the clubs and the league can be found on the Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls Association website or on their Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Monmouth Bowls Club members have been continuing the clean-up at their flooded green on the town Sports Ground, with a wash out at the weekend.

A club member posted last week: “I was down on the green this morning and we have already filled one skip with rubbish from the other sports and a few bits from our shed and container.

“Another skip is being delivered and the ruined mats will be going in there.”
