BEN Kellaway suffered a tough time as England's misery continued Down Under, with his England Lions side thrashed by an innings and 127 runs by Australia A on the final day of their four-day match in Brisbane.

Resuming on 274-6 and needing to reach 422 just to make the Australians bat again, the Lions lost their last four wickets for 21 runs on day four.

The Chepstow CC player's Glamorgan team-mate Asa Tribe made a century though, finishing 129 not out in their 295 all out.

And Jacob Bethell, having been released from the Ashes Test squad, made 71 on day three as he found some form.

But Kellaway – Gamorgan's Player of the Year – will want to forget the experience, out for two in England's first innings 166 all out and then a duck, and also hit for 55 for nought off his 12 overs, as the Aussies piled up 588-8 in their first innings.

Australia A picked eight full internationals compared to a youthful England's four, but the heavy defeat only adds to England's difficult winter.

The Test team is 2-0 down in the Ashes following Brisbane's eight-wicket loss, and few Lions players have pushed their case for selection.

They desperately need change ahead of next week's third Ashes Test in Adelaide, but options are limited.

Ollie Pope is under mounting pressure to keep his spot at No 3, after failing to reach 50 in his first four innings of the series.

The man most likely to replace him, Bethell, is still yet to hit his maiden first-class hundred in a career spanning 25 matches, but showed signs of promise with his 71 against Australia A on Sunday.

Tribe's century in the third innings in Brisbane has been the only hundred of the tour from an England Lions player.

The Brisbane match concludes the development side's matches in Australia, which saw Kellaway score 59 in their loss to a Cricket Australia XI.
