ON Monday 18th November, Monmouth 1st team faced Trecelyn in the South East Wales premier division.

Having suffered defeat to the well drilled and skillful Newbridge A the week before, Monmouth were looking to bounce back and get a much needed win.

Monmouth began the game strongly with short, sharp passing moving fluidly through the attack.

The Monmouth defence Mandy Davies and Vanessa Ball were able to make their mark and put pressure on the Trecelyn shooters.

Laura Griffiths did a fantastic job at keeping the more dangerous goal attack for Trecelyn out of the shooting circle and as a result Monmouth were able to take several early interceptions after Trecelyn picked up on a couple of Monmouth's mistakes.

Monmouth worked tirelessly to convert the turn overs and at the end of the first quarter, they were behind by one goal.

Monmouth kept the same seven in the second quarter, and continued to move the ball from defence to attack smoothly and consistently.

However, the Trecelyn defence were relentless, making it increasingly difficult for Monmouth to find space in the attack.

They kept themselves in the game by winning interceptions and converting, as well some unforced errors given away by Monmouth.

When Monmouth slowed the play down and timed their feeds into the shooting circle well, Holly Hall was able to put in some impressive shots from range, and Nina Booker impressively collected any loose rebounds.

The start of the third quarter saw a few changes for Monmouth, Lisa Small made her return to the Monmouth team with Booker going to the bench over a strong first half and Small made a strong impact on the play.

Unfortunately, the Trecelyn girls were beginning to settle in to their shooting but new Monmouth goal keeper Becky Hoggins marked tightly and put pressure on the goal shooter to come out of the circle and the third quarter ended with Monmouth trailing by four goals.

The Monmouth team knew that they had to keep the pressure on to win this game, so they calmed down the play and thought through every pass.

A shuffle round in the defence meant Kali-Jade Cross moved to wing defence which was a new position for her, allowing her to use her strength in attacking play when bringing the ball out of defence.

Mandy Davies and Emma King continued to made strong, accurate and well timed passes into the shooters and Monmouth slowly began to claw back their lead.

Eventually Monmouth won the game 37-34. After being behind all game, the Monmouth side made a gutsy comeback and some tactical changes of position won the game.

Player of the match which was voted for by the opposition went to shooter Holly Hall, while players player, voted by Monmouth,
