The honours were shared in this much-anticipated annual football match between Monmouth School for Boys’ 1st XI and the Old Monmothians.

The 1st XI hit back to draw level at 2-2 and then missed a late penalty in last Saturday’s entertaining match against a strong Old Monmothians side.

The annual fixture between current and former pupils is always a highlight in the school’s football calendar.

The 1st XI started on the front foot and deservedly took the lead with a header from Noah Rice.

However, the old boys settled into the contest and then struck twice – through Seb Lawson and Sam Swingwood – to open up a 2-1 advantage.

Luke Rees equalised for the 1st XI before they then missed a penalty, which would have given the hosts a hard-fought win.
