TEENAGE all-rounder Osian Jones has been picked for Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s Under-16s squad, after training at their Sophia Gardens HQ in Cardiff over the winter.

Monmouth CC’s Osian plays alongside dentist father Gareth Jones in the town’s 1st team, while younger brother Ieaun is currently training with Cricket Wales East, having represented the region for the last two summers.

Osian began his cricketing adventure with the All Stars programme at Monmouth CC (sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems) and is the club’s first youngster to progress from All Stars to the 1sts.

All Stars Cricket is the popular England and Wales Cricket Board's entry-level participation programme, providing a fantastic first experience for children aged 5-8, guaranteeing eight weeks of jam-packed fun, activity and skills development, helping them make new friends and have a great time doing so.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School pupil Osian later moved on to Dynamos Cricket at Monmouth, for 8-11 year-olds, before representing the town club’s U11, U13 and U15 sides.

The 16-year-old continues to work hard at his game and produced some important contributions with bat and ball as Monmouth secured the South-East Wales 7 title under captain Peter Keay last season.

Meanwhile, pre-season indoor training for Monmouth CC’s U13 and U11 teams continues at the leisure centre sports hall this Sunday (March 8) from 1pm-2.30pm.

Coaching, for boys and girls up to 14, is being led by ECB level two-qualified coach Pablo Nayager, the club’s vice-chairman.
