ROCKFIELD Rovers returned to top spot in East Gwent 2 with a 7-4 win away to Sudbrook CC on Saturday.
A Tommy Tynan brace and goals from Ben Johnson, Tom Mulvaney, Ryan O’Keefe, Ben Wiggins and an own goal secured all three points, lifting them three points above Chepstow Town 3rds.
Much of the grassroots football programme was scuppered by Friday's heavy rain, but Chepstow outfit Thornwell R&W hosted mid-table Trinant in Gwent Premier 2 and ran out 6-0 winners to go eighth.
Owen Badham opened the scoring after four minutes before Toby Prettyjohn added a second eight minutes later.
The latter's second on 57 minutes made it 3-0, before Alfie Sessford (69) and two late goals in a minute from Billy Jeffery (88) and Owain Westerman (89) completed the scoring, with a red card for a visiting player right on full-time.
Usk Town held on for a 2-1 win at home to Riverside to climb out of the drop zone, a Jordan Loydall brace proving enough despite the visitors pulling one back in stoppage time.
Loydall put the Green Army 1-0 in front from the spot on 21 minutes and looked to have sealed all three points with a second three minutes from the end of normal time, before a Tom Humphries reply on 91 minutes made for an anxious end game.
