South East Wales Cricket League Division Six - Undy and Magor First XI (246-6) beat Blaengarw First XI (102-9) by 144 runs

A FINE unbeaten 75 by Richard Hudson kept Division Six leaders Undy and Magor’s bid for promotion on track at Mill Lane.

Visiting Blaengarw skipper Will Struthers won the toss and asked the home side to bat first but may have regretted that decision as openers Harry James (60) and skipper Josh James (52) built a firm foundation for the innings.

When wicketkeeper Mike Price departed without troubling the scoreboard Hudson took over, hammering nine boundaries and two maximums.

He lost partners along the way but Ryan Hudson (25) kept him company long enough to pass the 200-run mark from the allotted 40 overs, a total which was always going to test the visitors.

Struthers was the pick of Blaengarw’s bowlers with 2-33 but the rest of their attack force suffered punishment.

In reply, Ziggy Niblett took a smart catch to remove opener Struthers for a duck and although opening partner Rebecca Struthers top-scored with 35, she finally fell, caught and bowled by Pete Charrett who took 4-36 from 7.1 overs.

Richard Hudson (3-13 from five overs) and Ryan Hudson (2-13 from five overs), ensured Blaengarw’s middle and late order batsmen managed only seven runs between them and the match ended in the 25th over.
