HARRY Hughes cracked five sixes and three fours in a 61-ball 69 for South East Wales 1 leaders Chepstow 1sts as they tonked hosts Tondu by 74 runs on Saturday.
A 78-run fourth-wicket partnership with James Kellaway helmed the innings, as the latter blasted 50 off just 34 balls including three sixes and five fours, with opener James Bishop and Lloyd Bartlett both also scoring 38s in a 260 all out total off 48.5 overs.
Tondu then saw out their overs, but Chepstow's tight attack stopped the run flow, limiting the hosts to 186-8, with Bruno Chitnis taking two wickets, and Bartlett, Josh Tregaskes, Lewys Jones, Filip Chitnis, Rhys Leach one apiece.
Philip Richardson hit 73 before Malith Madurasinghe took five wickets for Chepstow 2nds, as they won by 114 runs at home to SEW 3 basement boys Barry Athletic 1sts.
The hosts scored 211-9 off their 45 overs, Madurasinghe also scoring 26 and Scott Williams 23 not out.
And the Chepstow attack then ran amok, skittling the seasiders for 97 in 22 overs, Madurasinghe taking five for just 12 runs off seven overs, backed by a late 3-10 off 2.2 overs from Josh Powell and single strikes for Andrew De Almeida and Williams.
But three wickets in five balls knocked the stuffing out of the Chepstow 3rds innings away to Bay Dragons 2nds, as they went from 129-4 to 129-7 before reaching 182-9 off 40 overs, Paresh Mhamunkar scoring 49, Oliver Thornhill 29, Luca Goddard 22 and Ollie Trepte 22 not out.
Dragons then raced to 185-4 in 24 overs, Harry Harkins, Finlay Hillman and Ben Tate with the wickets backed by a Mhamunkar run out.
Chepstow 1sts host Cardiff 2nds on Saturday (August 2), while the 2nds are away to Miskin Manor 2nds and the 3rds host Monmouth 2nds.
