DAVID Teague produced a superb all round display in inspiring Chepstow to their sixth straight win in the league. The opener made a solid half century and then crucially took five wickets to trigger a dramatic Abergavenny batting collapse. The margin of victory slightly flattered the home team as this game was hard fought and at times looked to be swaying either way. An excellent fielding display allowed Chepstow to capitalise on some nervy Abergavenny batting. Abergavenny are a side that have struggled to win this season and tellingly Chepstow's extra confidence put pay to the away team's chances on this occasion. Chepstow batted first in hot conditions and struggled to impose themselves in the early overs. Abergavenny bowled with great discipline and were soon rewarded with early Chepstow wickets. The home side tilted at 65-3 and needed resolute half centuries from Teague and in form Alyn Franklin to rescue the innings. Hard running from the lower middle order and some erratic bowling from Dan Cooke allowed Chepstow to reach a competitive 207-6. In reply, Abergavenny showed aggression and an opening partnership of 70 put the away side in complete control. The introduction of the Chepstow spinners starting to squeeze the run rate and soon both openers were dismissed by Teague. The off spinner continued by removing the dangerous hitter Ali as Abergavenny faltered. The consistent Tudor Morgan-Huggett weighed in with four excellent wickets as Chepstow fought off a threatening 10th wicket partnership of 40 to bowl Abergavenny out for 149. Chepstow will be desperate to keep their excellent form going with an away trip to local rivals Sudbrook. Ben Jones
