Monmouth Town Council is being forced to scale down the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations this year.

Monmouth has always taken such pride in honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in both World Wars and more recent combats by holding a Remembrance Sunday Service.

However this year’s event will look quite different, but Monmouth is committed to ensuring that this day is marked with the greatest of respect.

This year, Remembrance Sunday is on November 8 and, therefore, the “firebreak regulations” will still be in force.

The First Minister has confirmed that organised Remembrance Sunday events will be an exception to the rules, however, there will still be very strict parameters put in place to ensure the safety of everyone in the town.

It is for this reason, that there will be no parade or church service this year and instead a small wreath laying ceremony will take place for invited guests only at the War Memorial.

Monmouth Town Council cannot stress enough the importance of the residents of Monmouth adhering to the “firebreak” rules and not attending this service.

Whilst the council knows so many people wish to pay their respects, it is vitally important to the safety of everyone that only the invited guests attend.

Instead, the Town Council has arranged for the wreath laying ceremony and the blessing from Reverend Dack to be live streamed so that all residents can watch the ceremony from the safety of their own homes whilst still adhering to the rules.

To access this live stream, which will start at 10.30am on Sunday November 8 2020 please search for Monmouth Praise! on YouTube or enter this link into your website address bar https://youtu.be/JZFnRYPt3aI.

The Town Council would like to thank the residents of Monmouth for co-operating in these difficult times.

‘‘We will remember them, together, safely.’’

A temporary street closure order will be in place from 10am to noon on November 8 so the wreath laying ceremony can go ahead.

These closures will affect Agincourt Square, St James’ Street, Castle Hill and Whitecross Street which will be closed while the A466 will be closed from its junction with Dixton Road to its junction with St James’ Street.
