A TOWN centre takeaway was hit with the lowest ‘zero’ food hygiene rating following a recent inspection.

King Kebab in Monmouth’s Monnow Street is still displaying a ‘four’ star rating in its window, despite scoring ‘zero’ and being told to make urgent improvements across all areas after November’s Food Standards Agency visit.

Inspected businesses in Wales are legally obliged to display their current rating.

A report said the handling of food, its preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage were below the hygienic standards required.

Food safety management and checks were also lacking to ensure food was safe to eat, while it was questionable whether staff understood food safety requirements.

The cleanliness and condition of the premises were also questioned, including ventilation, pest control measures and layout.
