Monmouth residents could have been forgiven for believing the Battle of Waterloo was happening last weekend when the 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers Reenactment Society decided to camp on the Kymin.

Visitors could see displays of drill, medical demonstrations, musket firing and get the chance to see at first-hand and find out how the soldiers coped with the day to day privations of war at that time.

The company in parade dress portrayed the regiment as it was in 1809 and the medical operations were so realistic that one little boy could not bear to watch and promptly became a casualty of the day!
