TWO men have been killed in a serious collision involving a motorcyclist and a pedestrian on the A40 between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye, near Whitchurch.

The incident, which took place shortly after 8pm yesterday (27th September), is understood to have occurred when a red Yamaha motorbike was in a collision with a pedestrian between the turning for Whitchurch village and on the approach to Symonds Yat services.

The motorcyclist - a man in his 20s - and the pedestrian - a man in his 30s - were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

The motorcyclist has been named locally as Rob Boyd, who was understood to be living in Monmouth.

The road was closed for eight hours while emergency services dealt with the incident but has since reopened.

Both the motorist and the pedestrian’s next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were also sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a motorcyclist who had suffered very serious injuries. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A short distance away a second man was found, and again, sadly, nothing could be done to help him and he was also confirmed dead at the scene.”

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident, was in the area at the time, or has dashcam footage of the collision.
