The junior members of Penallt Tennis Club took part in their annual tournament and were lucky enough to have perfect weather conditions. In the younger group there were 10 entrants and they did a number of tennis-related activities including rallying and serving. The competitors were Arthur and John Newington Bridges, Niamh O'Doherty, Libby O'Sullivan, Peaches and Boris Hale, Alex and Cameron Wright, and James and Emily Blair. When all the points had been added up, Arthur was in first place having sustained a rally of 23 shots and Emily was second with Peaches only one point behind. A special mention to John and Cameron who despite being younger than the others played very well. The players in the older group were Bea Newington Bridges, Daisy Hale, Archie Forbes, George Handley, Emily Farrington, Ollie Williams, Milly Taylor and Titus MacDermot. They played an American-style round robin tournament and during the course of the tournament each junior partnered each of the other seven in turn. At the end of the seventh round the results could not have been closer. Titus and Ollie both finished on 10 with Archie one point behind. Ollie and Titus played a tie break and even that was close with Titus winning 7-5. In all the matches the standard was impressive with many lengthy rallies and some excellent winning shots and very good court manners.
