A number of Forest of Dean AC runners took part in the second race of the 2014 series – the Hereford 5k on 7th May. After some rain, conditions were a bit breezy which was reflected in the times, with few managing to beat their results in the April race. First FODAC member to finish was Pete Woodward: 6th in 17:19. Performance of the night went to Jack Fleet, first in his category in 18:20. Third to finish was John Russell in 18:25. The ladies were better represented this time with Lynne Park finishing first in 23:50, followed by Jackie Green 24:34 and Claire Morgan 26:10. Other times: James Dobbing 18:35; Leyton Fleet 18:43; Marcus Bennetton 19:13; Daren Smith 19:29; Julian Boon 19:57; Alan Robertson 20:52; Chris Moore 22:30; Peter Short 23:12; Graham Bennetto 25:34; Louise McKenzie 26:40 and Vanessa Peglar 27:06. The final race of the series is on 11th June. Forest of Dean AC runners had a busy weekend, representing the club in a number of different events. Twety-three (pictured below) took part in CLC Striders' Aviator four-mile road race, which started and finished at Gloucestershire Airport, the club came away with five awards. Peter Woodward was 2nd overall in 22:58: a personal best. Age category winners were John Russell MV40; Stef Francis FV45; Jacqui Wynds FV55 and Chris Moore MV60. The club held the first of its Hare & Tortoise series, this is a 5k run held on the parkrun course and as the name suggests the slowest set off first with the fastest going last. The person who has the best time against their handicap time wins. There were 52 entrants of varying ages and abilities, the winner was Graham James in a time of 22.59, 2nd Jim Insall in 26.04 and 3rd Lisa Hardiman in 32.01 Down in Bristol, Karen Barnett completed the Bristol 10k in 56:08, a minute faster than 2013, and Louise McKensie in 57:37, her 3rd pb of the week. Graham James joined about 170 others in the Stroud Trail Marathon, his first attempt at the distance. This race includes nearly 3,000ft of climbing: Graham finished in 5hrs25mins. Mark Mathews took part in RogueRuns' latest race, a 10k-ish trail run starting at Bigsweir, running north and returning on the Offa's Dyke Path. Mark was 6th overall and 4th MV40 in 51:21.
