SPIRIT of Monmouth runners made the most of the glorious weather last weekend to take part in various races across South Wales.
On Sunday 8th May, Martin Blakebrough, Jeremy Creasey and Stephen Barratt participated in the Sorbrook Slog, a scenic seven mile multi-terrain race near Cwmbran. The challenging route included hills, mud and river crossings. Stephen Barratt gained a new personal record for the race.
Another team of Spirit of Monmouth runners took part in Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Race for Wildlife, which is a flat, fast 10km race held on roads and country lanes near Undy.
Despite the heat, Sally Gilson, Diane Smith, Tony Hardy and Sian Burns put in strong performances in the race.
Vinny Duffin and Stuart Kramer completed the Blaenavon Triathlon, which bills itself as ’possibly the toughest triathlon in the UK’. Entrants must complete an 800 metre pool swim, followed by a very hilly 32 mile bike ride and then a 9.3 mile run on the Sugarloaf Mountain trails. The high temperatures experienced on Sunday made a tough race even tougher, well done both!
