MORE than 100 runners took part in Chepstow Harriers' four-mile road race at Redwick on Tuesday 8th July. The race attracts a quality field of serious runners from local running clubs, as well as slower runners who want to challenge themselves on a fast, flat, measured course to try to gain a personal best time. The same course is repeated four times, once a month between May and August, with overall and age category prizes given at the end of the series. The competitors' best three scores out of the four races will count. Tuesday's race was the penultimate race, with anticipation increasing among those challenging for podium positions. Conditions were hot on the night, but competitors were all given a free drink in the bar after the race to help them cool down. A barbecue was also provided to feed the hungry runners. Prize winners on the night were: 1st Ryan Flynn from Mic Morris Racing in 21.13, 2nd Edward Donovan from Les Croupiers in 21.21, 3rd Mark Jennings from Fairwater in 21.28, 1st Female Nicola Gething from Parc Bryn Bach in 25.27, Niki Morgan from Chepstow Harriers in 25.56, Jane Colman from Bristol & West in 27.13. Run & Become running shop in Cardiff generously sponsor the event, and Run & Become vouchers will be given as prizes at the final race. The last race in the series will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 12th August at the village hall in Redwick. The cost is £7 for affiliated runners, and £9 for unaffiliated runners, payable on the night. The entry fee includes a free drink at the bar.
