TWO Monmouthshire racing drivers, Ashley Davies and Leon Window, are celebrating having secured first place in the 2016 Mini Se7en National Championship and Novice Championship respectively.

Davies secured the National Championship title at the penultimate round of the season, whilst the Novice Championship came down to the wire, with Window needing to finish in front of his championship rivals in both of the last two rounds at Zandvoort Circuit, in order to take the title.

The challenging race series, now in its fiftieth year, is famous for highly competitive and close racing.

This year’s championship was staged at eight iconic tracks including Brands Hatch, Donington Park, and Zandvoort in the Netherlands.

Commenting on the win, Leon Oliver, sales director for Select Security, said: “I am so pleased to have secured the Novice Championship after a long season.

“There have been highs and lows, but that’s racing.

“I have learnt so much in my first year and made some great friends along the way. I can’t wait for the 2017 season, and the chance to get back on track again.”

Davies said: “I would like to thank the team at Skirrid Mountain Garage (Team SMG) for preparing and maintaining both cars.

I would also like to thank my sponsors, Abergavenny Brake & Clutch, Select Security, and Jelf Group Insurance, without whom, none of it would have been possible.

“We are now looking forward to 2017 season and hoping to progress into the Mini Miglia championship.”
