THERE was a player shortage in Severn Tunnel's home match against Undy Athletic with both teams forced to take the field with no substitutes.

Work commitments and injuries caused the problem but the home side emerged 3-1 winners in what Tunnel manager Steve Duddridge described as a professional performance.

"We didn't have a recognised goalkeeper," he said.

"We owe a huge thanks to Matthew Addis for pulling on the jersey."

Daryl Berry gave Tunnel a 1-0 half time lead following excellent work by Darren Poultney and Sam Barrett added the second before Berry grabbed his second.

"Undy also fielded just 11 players and given the circumstances, it was an excellent game," Duddridge added,

"It was played at a high tempo and it was end-to-end football for long periods. Undy's youngsters – especially George Mollard – looked very good prospects.

"Our own youngster, 16-year-old Ethan Addis shone again for us, his tireless running and pace proving a problem for the visitors and he linked very well with Marc Carter-Selwood down the right flank."

Underwood SC A kept up the pressure in the title race with a 6-1 victory at Chepstow Athletic and Caldicot Castle A enjoyed an 8-2 home victory over Thornwell thanks to James Reid (4), Dave Williams (3) and Steve Edwards.

Severn Bridge went top of Division 2 with a 2-0 home win over Severn Tunnel B thanks to goals from Craig White and Chris Hooper.

Tunnel boss John Abram said it had been a well-fought game and paid tribute to Bridge keeper Martyn Jenkins for a fine performance.

"He was in inspired form," he said.

"I thought we played slightly better but they took their chances and their keeper really was the difference."

Chepstow Town B beat Portskewett and Sudbrook 3-1 thanks to goals from Jamie Goddard, Sean Robert and Paul Light with Simon Babb scoring for the visitors.

Tom Collins found the net for Tintern Abbey B in their 1-1 draw with Underwood SC B who slipped to second place.
