A NEW five and ten kilometre off-road night race will be held on Thursday 12th February at the National Diving and Activity Centre (NDAC), Chepstow, at 7.30pm.
This inaugural event, organised by Rogueruns, features a 5km course with the longer race completing two laps. The single lap race is designed for new-comers to off-road night running.
The event is suitable for night run beginners who are not keen on technical, off-road courses and who just want to enjoy the night running atmosphere.
The route is mainly on easy paths, tracks and some tarmac. There will still be some mud but it will not be too challenging underfoot.
Rogueruns has organised several challenging and technical off-road night races for runners, both in Chepstow and the Forest of Dean. As with all its night events, the course will be well marked with reflective arrows and tape, so there will be no possibility of any competitors straying off-route. All runners will need shoes with good grip and a good quality head torch.
Instead of their usual Thursday night training, Chepstow Harriers will be doing this race instead. It will provide an excellent training benefit to Harriers aiming to increase their speed and agility over rough terrain.
Race organiser Andy Creber Said: "Paul Dodd and I have now organised several off-road night races, but the NDAC is a completely new venue for us.
"It is a fantastic events centre, where we have come up with an interesting, varied, but very amenable course, which I hope will encourage beginners to give it a try.
"The thrill of running off-road at night is something that all runners should experience.
"Runners in our events have seen deer, wild boar, owls and other night creatures; it adds another dimension and challenge to running."
Free hot drinks and cakes are provided for all competitors at the finish and there will be toilets, showers and a café at the venue.
Pre-entry for the 5km run is £8 for affiliated runners and £10 for unaffiliated runners. Pre-entry for the 10km event is £12 for affiliated runners and £14 for unaffiliated runners. Runners can also enter on the night for an additional £2.
Prizes will be given to the first three male and female winners, and there will also be age category and spot prizes. The NDAC is kindly providing head torches for the first man and first woman completing the ten kilometre course.
