FUNDS raised during Chepstow Cricket Club's successful 175th anniversary last year have been put to good use – helping to nurture young talent for the future.

The club has invested in new nets and an artificial wicket to be used by the youngsters at the club.

Tim Rees, the chairman of the club, explained the old surface needed replacing.

"We run coaching sessions every week for teams at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 as well as out four senior teams and the constant use meant it was important we replaced the wicket and the nets in order to give the children the best facilities," he said.

"Using the money raised during our anniversary year and support from Chepstow Athletic Club and New Grove Trust, we have been able to spend more that  £12,000 for the benefit of our junior players.

Coaching sessions take place on Mondays for Under11s, along with a softball session for younger players, and Wednesday for Under 13s and Under 15s.

"Any prospective player is welcome to attend the appropriate sessions," Mr Rees added.
