The club walk organised for Sunday 1st June is seven miles on the Caldicot Levels, as the name implies a flat area but not without interest both historic and the flora and fauna. Prehistoric man built wooden track ways to travel through the marshes and the Romans first started to reclaim land for farming by digging ditches known locally as reens, St Mary's Church, Magor, has a fine Green Man and nearby are the remains of The Procurator's House, he collected the tithes on behalf of the abbey. The walk will take us to the sea wall with views along the Severn Estuary. The time from Glendower Street car park is 9am. The aim is to start to walk at 10am so the leaving time from the car park in Monmouth will vary each week. New members are always welcome to join Monmouth Rambling and Hillwalking Club. There is a small annual membership subscription. Suitable footwear and clothing are essential. Please bring a drink and a packed lunch. Further information can be obtained from the Tourist Information office in the Shire Hall, or telephone 01633 412013.
