MONMOUTH Town's U14s have had a great first half of the season, lying joint top in their league and through to the semi finals of the Gwent County Cup.
The first fixture of the New Year had the U14s drawn at home to Brynmawr in the quarter finals of the County Cup. After an impressive 8-2 win in the previous round against Tredegar, confidence was high and another solid performance with a clean sheet and goals from George Antony (2), Sean Swann McBride, Lee Dicks and Kyron Smith gave high flying Monmouth Town safe passage onto the semi- finals with a 5-0 win.
There were mixed fortunes for the other Monmouth teams after the Christmas break with Monmouth Town's U12s extending their lead at the top of the league with a comfortable 11-1 away win against Caldicot Blues, goal scorers were Gabe Unsworth (2), Oli Moss (2), Sam Swingwood (2), Emyr Pullen, Reuben Sutton (3), Callum Wood and Johnny Dunckley.
The joint MonUsk team also started the year with renewed confidence inflicting an 8-2 win over Chepstow Town. Monmouth Town's U16s battled hard against older opponents but the 13-2 score line did not reflect a good battling performance and will give the team confidence as the league splits into two divisions for the remainder of the season.
The Town's U18s also got back to winning ways, with a 4-1 away win to Marshfield, goals coming from Callum Wheatley, Ryan Jeffs, Jake Coombe, Ted Atkinson. With this winning start to the year the U18s have moved back in to the top four, and will look to push hard to challenge the leaders in the coming weeks.
