MONMOUTH Town Football Club's Juniors teams had mixed success last weekend.

The under-12s side travelled to Undy knowing that victory would put them one step closer to the league title. Monmouth had all of the early possession and got their first goal from an Oli Moss corner, which saw Johnny Dunckley tap in from close range.

Then, after good work by Sam Swingwood, who forced the Undy keeper to spill the ball, Sam was rewarded with a tap in of his own.

The Monmouth team continued to push forward and added another before half time to go in 3-0 up.

Undy came out much stronger in the second half and a deflected shot got them back in the game, however the Monmouth boys saw the game out for a well-earned win.

Both teams will meet again in the cup final next month.

Monmouth's other under-12s team, Monmouth Albion, were also in action last weekend against 2nd placed Caldicot Whites.

One victory apiece in the season so far set up a high scoring competitive fixture, with the younger Monmouth Albion team at their best.

A 6-3 victory was their best performance for a number of weeks and the Albion win means that victory for Monmouth against Caldicot on Thursday evening will see them win the title.

The MonUsk team have had a much better second half to the season than the first, and another impressive 7-2 away win to Thornwell shows the improvements they have been making.

Monmouth Town's under-14s are having a great season and are on course for a treble, but a goal from Ryan Bamford could not stop a 2-1 loss to Garden City Blacks.

This defeat has put a dent in their league title hopes, but with a game still in hand which will be played this Thursday they are still in a great position.

Monmouth Town under-16s, like the MonUsk team, have started to find some form in recent weeks and a 15-0 away win against Chepstow, shows the improvements they are also making.

Finally, the under-18s were at home in the second round of the Gwent County Cup, but a 2-0 defeat to RTB Ebbw Vale means, with only one league game to go, their season will come to an end next week.
