Twenty runners from Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club took part in the final road race of the Gwent Leisure Centre League Summer Series recently. The race took place at Parc Bryn Bach in Tredegar and was the last race out of the five in the series. The course was a tough 5.5 miles made up of two laps around the lake and golf course with a few hills thrown in for good measure to keep runners challenged. First club member home was Gareth Jones in a fantastic 12th place out of 273 runners, Gareth was followed by Allan Meek and George Smith who were the first three men home for club. First lady home was Simone Traylen-Thomas then Nerys Chaplin and Emma King, who were all very close crossing the line. The club have three members collecting awards which are based on their performance over four out of the five races held during the summer. Allan Meek finished second in his age category, Sian Stroud also finished second in her age category with Karen Barratt finishing third in hers. Emma King came sixth overall in the combined Cross Country and Road Races. The Gwent Leisure Centre League Cross Country Series starts on Sunday 19th October at Pontypool Park and the club is hoping to improve its team placings from last year. http://www.spiritofmonmouth.co.uk">www.spiritofmonmouth.co.uk
