THE recent refurbishment of Monmouth Rugby 's clubhouse presents an opportunity for the club to further engage with the town's community.

Monmouth RFC chairman, Lloyd Davies, commented: "Over the last 18 months we have worked incredibly hard to renovate the clubhouse.

"It offers a fantastic environment for the Monmouth community for parties, conferences and events.

"We recently hosted a Sportsman's Dinner for 80 individuals, with three course fine dining in the new upstairs function room.

"The clubhouse is open to all members as well as members of the public and other clubs and association. Please don't be shy in contacting us."

The Young Rugby section of the club continues to go from strength to strength. The Mon – Stars Rugby Camp in November saw 60 boys aged between 6-12 years of age attend the three-day training camp, run by qualified coaching volunteers from the club.

Welsh International and Newport Gwent Dragon Andy Powell spent a day training the boys and signing autographs.

Young Rugby chairman, Jonathan Henry, said: "Everyone had a great time at the Mon - Stars Camp and we are looking forward to the next event on the 22nd December.

All newcomers are welcome and the Mon – Stars Camp is available for girls and boys, and non-members of the club. Please come along and join in the fun.

"We are trying to nurture rugby playing gentlemen who understand the ethos of Rugby Union, both in terms of playing the game and the social aspects of this fantastic team sport.

"It is important that children develop an understanding of community and responsibility and it was great to see the young players line up for the Remembrance Sunday commemorations on the 9th November."

Monmouth Rugby Club is a strong part of the town. With more than 1,200 members, players and supporters, the club represents approximately 10 per cent of the Monmouth community.
