On Saturday 29th March, 27 Chepstow Harriers raced at the Cardiff Park Run for their March club championship event and achieved some impressive performances.
Out of a large field of 577 competitors, six Chepstow Harriers won their age categories: Laurie Carter, Syd Wheeler, Jane Horler, Niki Morgan, Teresa Tranter and Daphne Austerberry.
Matt Stott was first Chepstow man home in an impressive time of 17.18 and came 8th overall. Jane Horler was the first Chepstow woman home in 18.40 and was second woman overall. 60-year-old Harrier, Teresa Tranter, had the second highest age graded score in the entire field of 577 runners.
Not content with one race at the weekend, three Harriers did the double and also competed at the Forest of Dean Trails Half Marathon the following day. 75-year-old veteran and local running legend, Syd Wheeler completed both races. Rob Beeves, who is training in earnest for his London Marathon debut in two weeks' time, was delighted to achieve two personal best times at Cardiff and the Forest of Dean.
Niki Morgan also completed both and was very pleased to be third female at the half marathon out of 713 female competitors.
Other Harriers to win the coveted Top 50 Athlete t-shirts at the half marathon were Alice Constance, Vanessa Lawson, Jan Morris, Rebecca Comins, Esther Barrett, Nick Davis and Steve Harris.
The sun shone at both events, the near-perfect conditions leading to lots of personal triumphs and happy faces
