ON Sunday 31st May, 26 Chepstow Harriers ran the Rack Raid, a 100 mile stage race from Grosmont Castle to Castell-Y-Bwch.

Chepstow's A team were second out of 25 teams while the B team were the first B team and 7th team overall.

The 13 stage road race had a different runner on each leg with distances from 5.1 to 13.1 miles.

RACK stands for Ruined Antiquities, Castles and Keeps, with one of each situated at each leg's start and finish points.

Team captains James Blore, Sophie Gilbert and Vanessa Lawson were delighted with the performance of the two teams. James said: "All our runners gave 100 per cent, racing their hearts out to achieve these excellent placings.

"Pontypool had a really strong men's team so we didn't manage to clinch the ultimate first place title this year, but for our A team to come second with such strong competition was beyond my expectations.

"We also had a really strong B team achieving a very good overall position, as well as beating all the other B teams.

Chepstow had four runners who won their stages.
