ON Saturday 18th July, five Chepstow Harriers took on the Waun Fach Fell Race as part of the club's 2015 fell racing championship entry.

The race is six miles long and packs a 2,000ft ascent punch. Conditions on the day were blissfully sunny with a wind that was fortunately blowing the competitors up the mountain.

First Harrier across the line was Matthew Lawson in a time of 58 minutes and Niki Morgan was second Harrier home, taking second lady position overall, followed by her partner Andy Creber who was second in his age category.

Neil Grant followed and was first in his age category, and John Nash came in not far behind.

The race director Rob Brown was also a Chepstow Harrier and, instead of awarding prizes, he gave all the money raised to the local mountain rescue team.

Many other Chepstow Harriers were out on the hill, marshalling or helping.

Rob said "I am indebted to fellow Harriers Andy Stott, Dick Finch, Gerry and Sue Ashton, Vanessa Lawson and Dave Austin, without whom the race could not have been staged."
