Despite its warm and cuddly sounding name, the 35 hardy competitors that took part in the off-road Bluebell Blunder on Sunday 11th May found the course surprisingly tough.

The lovely 6.3 mile jaunt through the lower Wye Valley encompassed sections of the stunning Offa's Dyke Path, woodlands carpeted in bluebells and wild garlic, and plenty of mud and undulations to tax the legs and lungs.

The course was very well marked and marshalled so there was no chance of any competitors going astray.

All runners reported thoroughly enjoying it, and were even happier to be tucking in to the free tea and home-made cakes provided in the finish marquee. Hand-crafted wooden Bluebell trophies were awarded to the first man and woman, with bottles of wine for the first 3 men and women and first in each age category.

The first 3 men were: Philip Matthews, Swansea Harriers: 44.01, Paul Murrin, Chepstow Harriers: 44.27, Richard Johnson, Pont-y-Pwl: 45.57. The first 3 women were: Nicola Gething, Parc Bryn Bach: 54.56, Sammi Toop, Pont-y-Pwl: 59.56, Danielle Phillips, Pont-y-Pwl: 1.03.44.
