THE 2015 Severn Bridge Half Marathon had its official launch at Basepoint's offices in Chepstow last Wednesday (28th January).

The race's two designated charities, St David's Foundation and Great Western Air Ambulance were present, as well as the event's race directors and sponsor, Basepoint.

With more than 400 entrants already signed up to take on the Severn Bridge Half Marathon, both novices and experienced runners are beginning their training plans for the race on Sunday 30th August.

Last year, 2,500 entrants signed up to take part in the inaugural Severn Bridge Half Marathon, organised by Rogueruns. It was the first time the bridge has been closed for a running event since it opened in 1966.

The officially measured 13.1 mile course is fairly flat, but does have one hill and there will be a cheeky sign, marked "The Hill!" on approach to it.

Race organiser Paul Dodd said: "We are delighted to have secured the permission from the Highways Agency and the Severn Bridge authorities to run this event again in 2015.

"Our inaugural event received very positive feedback last year, and we hope to make this year's event an even better experience for the runners.

"We are thrilled to have St David's Foundation back for the second year running as one of our official charities, and it is great to have our new charity partner, Great Western Air Ambulance on board.

"At the point of online entry, runners can quickly and easily select to donate a pound to these charities."

The event has a real carnival atmosphere to it, with the event village buzzing with upbeat music to inspire the runners. Sports massages will be available to limber the runners up, and give post-race easing of tired muscles. There will be many catering vans, home-made cakes, and an event headquarter's marquee where the prize giving will be held, and results displayed.

Each runner completing the course will receive a medal and a memento technical t-shirt.

The winners will receive £150 in cash, and a hand-made Severn Bridge trophy.

The Severn Bridge Half Marathon costs £27 for runners who are affiliated to a running club, and £29 for unaffiliated runners. For more information, or to enter online, visit http://www.severn">www.severn
