THERE were goals galore as two teams hammered 30 goals between them in Division 1 on Saturday, suggesting goal difference will decide the title again.

Top scorers were Sudbrook CC A who crushed Caldicot Castle A 16-0 but not far behind, thrashing Thornwell 14-0, were Undy Athletic.

Sudbrook's co-manager Daryl Cann, who scored in his first game for seven months, certainly believes the Division 1 crown will go to the club who scores most and concedes least.

"We led 7-0 at half time and some teams might have eased off but we didn't because I really think the title will be decided on goal difference," he said.

"Zak Hitchens scored five, Rob Thorn hit four and Tom Stuart grabbed a hat-trick," he added.

Sudbrook's other goals came from Keenan Perrett (two), Steve Phillips and Cann.

Meanwhile, the example set by Sudbrook, Underwood and Severn Tunnel is being used as a blueprint by Undy's boss Ben Garner.

"You see the results the three teams get where they hit double figures three or four games a season and I want to instil that same sort of ruthlessness in our game," he said.

"We had six scorers with at least two each, so we are getting there.

"It was my biggest win in five years as manager so I'm chuffed."

While their rivals romped to comfortable victories, Underwood and Tunnel were earning their places in the draw for the next round of the Amateur Cup, Underwood winning 4-2 at Fields Park with goals from James McManus, Matthew Seabourne, Tom Turner and Kyle Brown and Tunnel thrashing home side Shaftesbury 8-0.

Tintern Abbey won 5-1 at Chepstow Athletic thanks to a hat-trick by Geraint Reynolds and two from 16-year-old striker Joe Whitehouse.

Abbey boss Martin Woodford said the partnership is starting to show a lot of promise.

"It was our first league win after a difficult start," he added.

"The new strike pairing of Geraint and Joe proved too much for the opposition and our defence showed resilience against Chepstow's aerial bombardment.

"Centre half Darren Luff was man of the match for a towering performance. Not a bad result with six key players out."

Mathern A won 5-1 at Chepstow Town to go top of Division 1.

Harry Lewis scored his second hat-trick of the season with the other goals coming from Tom Watson and Wayne Duffield.

Manager Lee Baker believes the competition for places in his squad is bringing out the best in the players.

"Competition is strong and team spirit is very high," he said.
