Gwent County League Division Three - Sudbrook CC 4 Coed Eva Athletic 1
SUDBROOK striker Steve Wilson grabbed all four goals to keep the club’s promotion bid on track with a 4-1 victory against Coed Eva at Mill Lane.
“It was our first match on our own pitch,” said assistant manager Drew Main.
“It was another dominant performance and barring a 20-minute spell in the second half, we were in total control.
“We started the game quickly and Steve Wilson scored within early on and Coed Eva struggled to get any momentum into their game,” Main added.
Just before the break, Coed Eva had a man sent off for a rash two-footed tackle and Wilson made it 2-0 before the break
“The message from manager Daryl Cann at half-time, was to maintain our excellent tempo,” Main said.
“We wanted to press on and score more goals and send a message to the other teams in the division, especially after last week’s disappointing draw at Rogerstone.
On the hour we made changes and introduced new signing Kel Stevens for the excellent Jamie Green and reshuffled the team slightly.
“This disrupted our play for the next 20 minutes or so and we were forced to replace Richie Lloyd with Joe Whitehouse, after he was injured.”
Coed Eva made it 2-1 to set up a final 10 minutes which saw Sudbrook keeper Craig Brimble make a couple of excellent saves but Wilson completed his hat-trick and then added the fourth from the spot after a final-minute penalty was awarded to the home side.
“There were several positives for us to take, mainly the amount of chances we produced,” Main continued.
“On another day we could have scored at least 10 goals and we look dangerous every time we go forward.
“There are a couple of areas for us to work on but with training resuming after the midweek games we are confident we can improve further and hopefully extend our unbeaten run.”
Sudbrook are away to third-placed Brynmawr on Saturday.
Goals from Zac Niblett, Luke James and Tom Atkins gave Severn Tunnel another three points at Rogiet as they beat Ponthir 3-0
Co-manager Marcus Jenkins was particularly pleased to get a clean sheet.
“We were very disciplined and switched-on from the start,” he said after the match.
“It was a great team performance. There were no serious threats on our goal and our keeper Neil Hughes only made one save so we are all very happy going into this Saturday’s match at home to Sebastopol.”
