JD Welsh League Division Two - Monmouth Town 1 Aberdare 0

MONMOUTH Town continued their good form albeit making hard work of overcoming bottom of the league Aberdare 1-0 at Monmouth Sportsground on Saturday.

Going into the game after a stunning 2-0 win at Pontadawe, Monmouth underestimated their lowly opposition and struggled to find any form throughout the game. Missing manager, Nick Morgan who was undergoing knee surgery, the Kingfishers made one change to the previous week, bringing in Josh Brown for Ben Jones.

Monmouth controlled the majority of the first half and retained possession but lacked the ability to create any chances and out of possession were sloppy and laboured. The second half continued as the first had ended with Monmouth seeing more of the ball but creating little offensively. The fixture was in danger of becoming a nightmare for promotion-chasing Monmouth who finally made the breakthrough with Rory Prettyjohns bundling in a header from an Elliott Ford corner.

Monmouth failed to unlock the stubborn Aberdare defence again and against a better attacking opposition would have found themselves conceding after offering Aberdare several chances to get themselves back into the game.

Despite a disappointing performance Monmouth held on for another victory which sees them share the top of the table with Caldicot Town. The Kingfishers next face Bridgend Street at Monmouth Sportsground. Kick off is 2pm.
