CALDICOT Town LFC maintained their title challenge with a 3-0 home victory over Splott Albion at Jubilee Park on Sunday.

Already leading their two main rivals with a superior goal difference, Town could and maybe should have extended it even further, especially after two early goals only underlined their control on the game.

With six wins from six and almost a third of the way through the league season, Town showed their class by shrugging off the loss of five major players - including Ashleigh Harris - through injury or work commitments to dominate the game and restrict their fourth-placed opponents to a few long-range efforts.

Town went ahead when Chelsea Cochrane prodded home a left-wing cross and then Emily Bayliss followed up for a tap-in after the visitors’ keeper could only parry a free kick.

With Hazel Lockwood and Leanne Rogers solid at the back and Bayliss and Cerys Pinchard in control, it was strange that, despite their dominance it took until the 80th minute for the result to be put beyond doubt with Richelle Jones scoring from 25 yards.

“I was very pleased with today’s result against a tough Splott Ladies team,” manager Luke Harris said later.

“Everything we have worked on in training was taken onto the pitch.

“We were missing key players and it proved we can still control games with them being away which was a very big positive for me.”

Town are away to Willows Ladies this Sunday and then welcome title rivals Aberystwyth Town on 18th November, kick-off 2pm.
