BLACKROCK Rovers bounced back from their 9-1 drubbing at Wainfelin with a 4-2 home win, denying Villa Dino the chance to go top in the process.

Rovers had to come back from 2-0 down and Scott Lovell reduced the arrears before the break.

When the visitors had a player sent off in the second half, it turned the match and Ben Smith fired a hat-trick to seal the victory.

Rockfield Rovers were on the receiving end of a 10-2 drubbing at Nantyglo, Scott Skipp scoring the visitors’ goals.

Manager Dave Seymour described the match as a “day when everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.”

Rockfield face another away match on Saturday when they visit West of St Julians.

Sudbrook warmed up for their first home match of the season when they won 6-3 at Pontnewydd.

The club has had to play every one of the early season matches because their pitch overlaps the cricket field but with the summer season over, they can now replace the posts and barriers the league insists must be in place for matches.

They begin their home season by entertaining Nantyglo.

The other East Gwent club, Caldicot Castle, were without a match at the weekend but are due to welcome Ponthir on Saturday (all matches kick off at 3pm).
