Gwent County League Division Three - West of St Julians 1 Blackrock Rovers 2
BLACKROCK Rovers are just three points below the second promotion spot after yet another good win under their new manager.
Since taking over the reins three weeks ago, Richard Regulski’s men have netted nine points from three games and are now breathing down the necks of the top four with games in hand on all but one of them,
Equally as important, Rovers are now firmly in the driving seat as far as the three East Gwent sides are concerned, six points above Sudbrook CC and 13 ahead of Caldicot Castle.
As Rovers’ boss conceded after the 2-1 win at West of St Julians, it wasn’t the greatest performance of the season but it was an important three points.
“It was a mixed performance,” Regulski said.
“We had spells of good football and so did the opposition. We were missing a few players through injuries but the 12 players I had worked hard.
“Luke James gave us the lead towards the end of the first half, chipping the goalkeeper who had hit a poor clearance straight to him.
“We started slowly after the break and they equalised on 55 minutes but we took control from then on.
“With 20 minutes left, Steve Wilson fired the winner from 25 yards.
“We worked hard to see out the game and keep the points. There is a good feeling at the club, it’s full of winners who want to win the league.
“We have games in hand over the teams above us but we need to work hard for the three points each week.
“We have key home games against leaders Wattsville, fourth-placed Nantyglo and third-placed Rhymney who we play this Saturday (3pm kick off) so we need to keep our unbeaten-at-home run going.”
