NEW research has revealed the price of a pint of lager at each English Football League stadium, and how inflation may affect the costs in the future.

The study from Tipman Tips analysed the price of a pint of lager at each current Championship, League One, and League Two stadium. Then, by factoring in the current UK inflation rate of 4.3 per cent for alcoholic drinks, analysts were able to reveal when costs for a lager would surpass £10 or more.

The most expensive League One matchday pint ahead of the 2025/26 season can be found at the Cardiff City Stadium, where one pint will set fans back by a sizable £4.30.

If inflation on alcoholic drinks continues to rise at its current rate, then a pint at the Cardiff City Stadium will surpass the £10 mark by the 2045/46 season.

The research also found that in just a decade, a pint at a Bluebirds match will cost a £6.55. If Cardiff are to return to the Championship at the first time of asking this season, then the club would only rank sixth for the most expensive pints. All five of the EFL’s most expensive matchday pints can be found at Championship stadiums.

Elsewhere in Wales, Swansea City sells the next-most expensive matchday pint out of the four Welsh EFL clubs. It currently costs £3.90 for Swansea’s cheapest lager option, rising to £5.97 in a decade, and surpassing the £10 mark by 2048/49, when a pint will set you back by £10.10.

Meanwhile, both Wrexham AFC and Newport County sell their stadium pints for £3.50. However, if inflation continues to rise at its current rate, this cost will rise to £5.45 in a decade, with prices surpassing £10 by the 2050/51 season. This means that in just a quarter of a century, all EFL match day pints in Wales will set fans back by more than £10.

Leicester City currently sells the most expensive pints in the EFL, at a staggering £5.80. Due to inflation, a pint at the King Power Stadium will cost £9.05 in just a decade, before surpassing the £10 mark by 2035/36.

Southampton currently offer the second-most expensive pint in the EFL at £5.50. In a decade, a pint at St Mary’s Stadium will cost £8.41, but will cost over £10 by 2040/41.

Charlton Athletic ranked third, as a pint at the Valley costs £5.00 in 2025/26. However, in a decade, this will increase to £8.69, and will set fans back by more than £10 come 2043/44.

QPR took fourth, as the West London club’s current pint price of £4.60 will reach £7.00 in a decade, but will pass the £10 mark by 2044/45.

Birmingham City rounded out the top five, as the club’s £4.50 pints will cost £6.85 in a decade, but will surpass the £10 mark by the 2045/46 season.

The rest of the top 10 was completed by Derby County in seventh, before a trio of League Two clubs, including the two newly promoted from the National League this summer, with Barnet, Colchester United, and Oldham Athletic in joint eighth.

All four of these clubs will sell pints for £10 or more by 2047/48 if inflation continues at its current rate. On the flip-side, the cheapest EFL stadium to get a pint in 2025/26 is Huddersfield Town of League One, as it currently costs £3.20 per pint at the Accu Stadium.

However, inflation rates are expected to catch up to the Terriers by the 2052/53 season, when a pint will cost exactly £10.01.
