MATT Edwards and local co-driver Will Rogers continued their march on the production class of the British Rally Championship with yet another class win on last weekends Scottish Rally. Despite a somewhat disappointing 11th overall, the duo finished as seventh BRC crew home.

The British Rally Championship regulars were lining up to do battle with the Scottish Championship contenders, with a high quality 121 crews assembling in Dumfries.

The new one day format offered crews 62 competitive miles in the classic forests of Castle O’Er, Twiglees and the vast Forest of Ae. Heavy rain showers made conditions somewhat interesting for the morning loop and Edwards was soon in his stride, taking an immediate lead in the production class and was never seriously challenged all day.

The only problem in the Swift Group DMack Tyres-backed Lancer Evo 9 was a slight misfire on stages three, four and five, but this was soon sorted to allow the duo to record yet another class win.

“Its good to score yet another class win today, our aim was to win the production cup at the beginning of the year and we came here really to get the job done, although we struggled to get on the pace today”, said Rogers.

“The stages were very loose in the morning but got very rough in the afternoon”, he added. “I think a top three finish in the production cup runners will see us win the title on the Nicky Grist Stages in two weeks time.”

The Builth Wells-based Nicky Grist Stages will see a new two day format with 45 miles of gravel stages on the Saturday, followed by 58 miles on the notorious tarmac of Epynt ranges on Sunday, where the British Rally Championship will meet the Pirelli Welsh Championship regulars and the event as attracted a full 180 car entry.
