CHEPSTOW Harriers’ men and women won the overall 2015-16 cross country and road running series of the Gwent Leisure Centre League, beating 10 teams in south east Wales.
The final road race in the series was held on 23rd August at Parc Bryn Bach. Chepstow’s men were the first team, and Chepstow’s women were the second team on the night. The women’s B and C teams were first, whilst the men’s B and C teams were third. The men won the road series overall, with the women in joint first place with Parc Bryn Bach running club, after all five races. When adding the cross country series from the winter, both teams picked up the first place trophies.
There were many individual podium positions too. In the road series, prize winners after five races were: Esther Barrett third Vet 40, Niki Morgan first Female Vet 45, Joc Dodd first Vet 60, Jane Bayliss third Vet 60, Brenda Avery first Vet 65, Duncan Bell first Vet 45, Jonathan Carter second Vet 45, Rob Beves first Vet 50, Steve Owen first Vet 60, Neil Grant second Vet 60, Syd Wheeler third Vet 70.
Team captain James Blore commented: “I’m very proud of both our male and female teams. The leisure centre league series is becoming increasingly popular and competitive with some top class runners. Each runner plays their part, no matter how fast or slow they are, and it’s been tremendous to see the consistent turn out of our members to support these important, but fun and sociable races.”
The prize presentation will be held at the first race in the Autumn cross country series on 23rd October.
