AFTER many rumours circulating that the Wyedean will not run next year, the Forest of Dean Motor Club announced this week that the event is alive and well and will revert to its former date from the 1970s.

After negotiations with the local authorities who have always been fully supportive of the event over the years a November date has been agreed.

Despite this good news, with new safety guidelines introduced by British rallying’s governing body this year and even more stringent ones on safety in 2016, its important that all events in the UK get plenty of marshals out on rallies next year to make sure they run smoothly.

With this in mind, the Forest of Dean Motor Club are introducing a series of marshall training days starting early in the New Year to make sure, come next November, that the event will be well marshalled.

Benefits of marshalling include not only seeing the event but keeping spectators safe and the satisfaction of helping clubs run a safe and successful event. The training course also offers the opportunity to register to marshal on Wales Rally GB.

Courses include marshalling in the stage, running start and finish controls, passage controls and then moving on with experience to be a stage commander. Age is no barrier, and everyone is welcome to come along.

"Its great to be able to announce the long history and tradition of the Wyedean will continue in 2016,” said former chairman and Wyedean organiser Paul Willetts.

“We have always had fantastic support from the local community, and now its more important than ever that people get behind us.

"With these new strict MSA guidelines it is now essential that we get plenty of marshals on the Wyedean next year. That’s why we are running these courses to train people in the roles, its free to come along and you will learn an awful lot."
