A CHEPSTOW cricketer is celebrating after helping to win a Welsh title – in another sport.

Tudor Morgan-Huggett, a spin bowler who plays for Chepstow CC, is also a talented footballer, who plays for Caldicot Town

But Tudor, who was born deaf, was in the Cardiff City Deaf Futsal team that retained the Welsh Deaf Futsal Cup.

Futsal is increasing in popularity. The sport was invented in Brazil and is similar to five and six-a-side football but with certain differences.

The playing area is defined by lines on the floor rather than the usual practice of being allowed to bounce the ball off the side and back boards.

The ball is also smaller than a normal football and bounces less to encourage players to improve their skills and footwork.

Tudor, who is studying Sports Development at Cardiff Metropolitan University, scored six goals – including a hat-trick – during the competition that featured two teams from Cardiff City, two from Bristol and one from Newport County.

The 19-year-old's interest in futsal grew after he watched videos of the sport on the internet.

"I contacted the regional development coordinator, Rob Franklin, who is also team manager for Wales' deaf futsal who invited me to get involved.

"I have a huge ambition to play futsal as it's a great way to develop my own sporting ability on and off the field where it will help me in an 11-a-side game.

A member of the Welsh Deaf Futsal squad, Tudor has attended Wales' deaf futsal training camps where players train at Dragon Park, Newport.

"We have another training camp on December 7th. To be selected to play for Wales is a great feeling.
