CHEPSTOW 1st XI fell to a 17-run defeat in a low-scoring match at Dafen Welfare on Saturday.

They looked in with a good shout of chasing down the target after dismissing the Llanelli hosts for 162 with 4.3 overs to spare.

Filip Chitnis took 3-26, backed by Jason Dobbie with 2-22 and Lewys Jones with 2-38, with Dobbie also taking three catches.

But they struggled from the off in reply, before three ducks in the middle order reduced them to 49-6.

And despite 32 from third man Mitchell Harris and a spirited fightback by tailenders Hemayatullah Seddiqi with an unbeaten 24, Lewys Jones with 19 and Dobbie with 14, they were all out for 145 in the 37th over..

The 2nds won though by seven wickets at home to Sully Centurions 1sts, dismissing the visitors for 163 in 38.5 overs before reaching 166-3 in 34.3 overs.

Malith Madurasinghe took three wickets, backed by Josh Tregaskes and Chris Archer with braces.

Madurasinghe fell for five (13-1), but it proved a minor hiccough as Archer with 29 and skipper Tuhin Gavand with 24 made a solid start, before an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 102 from James Bostock with 43 and Philip Richardson with 46 eased them home.

The 3rds won comprehensively, cantering to a 111-run victory at home to Blackwood Town 3rds.

Alun Jones cracked a majestic 145 not out, including 18 fours and six sixes, backed by Charlie Harkins with 24 and Matthew Anderson with 22 as they raced to 246-6 off 40 overs.

In reply, only three Blackwood batters made double figures, with Chepstow's Zakerya Ahmadzai wiping out the lower order taking six wickets for just three runs off 3.2 overs, as the visitors were skittled out for 135 with 10 balls to spare.

Amrullh Ahmadi also chipped in with 2-23.

Chepstow 1sts host Port Talbot on Saturday (May 18), while the 2nds face Sully Spartans 1sts away and the 3rds travel to play Newport Fugitives 3rds.
