A 131-RUN opening stand guided Usk 1st XI to a seven-wicket opening SW Premier One victory at home to newly-promoted Abergavenny.

Three wickets for Ollie Rayner and two each for Glamorgan’s Billy Root and former Qatar skipper Tamoor Zafar helped dismiss Aber for 173.

Hugo Caldicott with 64, including eight fours, and fellow opener Matthew Williams with 59, including six fours and a six, then set the hosts on the road to victory, with Root (11no) and Harawal Ahmed Wassam (6no) seeing them over the line to 178-3 in 35 overs.

Usk 2nds won by 116 runs away to Creigiau 1sts, skittling them for just 42 after setting a target of 158-8.

Sidharth Ramesh fired 50 and Pat Rodden 22 before Usk's attack laid waste, Rodden taking 3-10, and Joe Peacock and Paul Murphy both 2-10.

And the 3rds completed a clean sweep winning by nine wickets away to Ebbw Vale 2nds, dismissing them for 110, with four wickets apiece for Oliver Hall and Julian Smith, before racing to 111-1 in 17 overs, Neil Perrett firing 51 and Julian Sanders 44no.

Chepstow 1st XI scored 220 all out, Harry Hughes with 58 and Carwyn James 57, but lost by six wickets to Sudbrook (221-4).

The 2nds won by four wickets away to Crumlin 1sts though, Lloyd Bartlett with 5-41 helping to dismiss the hosts for 123, before Chris Archer (36) and Philip Richardson (32) helped steer them to 124-6.

And a magnificent unbeaten 144 by Luca Goddard helped the 3rds to 251-7 and a 109-run win away to Abercynon 2nds, backed by Brent Hawkins (44) and Alun Jones (31), with Charlie Harkins, Scott Williams and Andrew De Almeida taking wicket braces in the hosts’ 142 all out reply.

Penallt & Redbrook were also eight-wicket winners away to Gloucester 3rds (132 all out), Cameron Lee firing 58no and Graham Emerson 37 in their 135-2 after two wickets apiece for Vipin Sathy, Cameron Pardington, SR Rajesh and Geoff Eaves.

Elsewhere, Glen Hamilton (44), Will Heath (33) and Ollie Mann (32) helped Llanarth 1sts to 205 all out away to Abergavenny 2nds, but the hosts reached 207-2 with five overs left.

The 2nds beat Llantwit Fardre 2nds by 67 runs at home though, Chris Page scoring 105 and Dave Myatt 64 as part of a 157-run opening stand as they reached 280-7, with the visitors then restricted to 213-9, Andrew Hilditch taking four wickets and Will King three.
