South East Wales Cricket League Division One (Second XI) - Chepstow (252 all out) beat Pontypridd (98 all out) by 154 runs

THE return of two players home from university helped make it a successful weekend for Division One (Second XI) leaders Chepstow.

The home side dismissed Pontypridd seconds for 98 after setting a target of 252 to beat.

Chepstow skipper Jon Huws lost century-maker Dave Bennett who was promoted to the first team but welcomed back Luke Watson and Ollie Thornhill who both played a major part in the win.

“We were in a bit of trouble early on after a good spell from their opening bowler.” Huws admitted later.

“But Ollie and Luke steadied the ship then took the game away from Pontypridd with scores of 59 and 78 respectively. We finished on 252 but in truth we felt we left a few runs out there.

“When it came to our turn to bowl, Luke bowled an excellent hostile spell with the new ball, taking 3-11 with one maiden in six overs.”

In support, Lewys Jones matched Watson, taking almost identical figures ending with 3-11-1-5.2 while Ben Kellaway (1-34-0-6) completed the rout.

“Over the last few weeks a few of the lads have really shown their first team potential and I expect them to be challenging for places over the next few weeks,” Huws concluded.
