South East Wales Cricket League Division One (Second XI) - Chepstow Second XI (288-8) beat Newbridge Second XI (212-5) by 76 runs
AT Mathern Road, Chepstow Seconds gained revenge on Newbridge thanks largely to a fine knock by Jamie Rayner who hit 128 to help set a target that the visitors found too hot to handle.
Ably assisted by fellow opener Scott Bailey (64), Rayner hit 13 boundaries and two maximums while his partner found the boundary 12 times.
Tuhin Gavand chipped in with 15 runs after replacing Bailey at the crease and Ben Jones made 42 before being stumped.
Despite the remaining batsmen being unable to build a double-figure score, the main damage had already been done and although the visitors made a huge effort, they were unable to chase down the total.
Rizan Mansoor (1-20 with one maiden in nine overs) bowled Euan Tippings for 23 but opening partner Travis Morgan hit 10 boundaries and three maximums on his way to 105 before wicketkeeper Bailey capped a good day by stumping him before pouching a catch to dismiss Elliot Jenkins giving Ben Kellaway two well-deserved wickets.
Alex Horton took up the baton and made 41 before Ryan Scrivens held the first of two catches, the first one coming off Jonathan Huws’ bowling and the second giving youngster Cam Rees a scalp.
Kellaway claimed 2-28 from his eight overs, Huws 1-23 and Rees 1-60.
