Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Cricket League Division One - Sudbrook (289-6) beat Blackwood Town (280) by nine runs.

ONE week after hammering 150 runs in a pre-season friendly, Matthew Kinchin struck 93 to help Sudbrook win at Blackwood Town – but it was close!

Sudbrook posted 289-6 from their 50 overs with Jamie Watkins (42), Rhys Pescod (39) and Matthew Spencer (34) making valuable contributions,

But Blackwood kept coming at the visitors and Mickey Martin’s men had to work hard to win by nine runs.

Scott O’Leary was Sudbrook’s best bowler, taking 4-20 with three maidens in his 10 overs while Jonathan Lewis (2-39), Martin (1-47), Ian Simmonds (1-69) and Jamie Watkins (1-72) were more expensive.

Back at Mill Lane, Sudbrook seconds found Lisvane seconds tougher and lost by 87 runs.

Jon Clements was the pick of the bowlers with 3-45 from his nine overs and Rob Simmonds (1-30) and Gary Morgan (1-31) as Lisvane posted 283-7 and although opener Greg Shaw made 64 before being bowled and Ed Neale top-scored with 67, only opener Steve Comins managed a double-figure score and Sudbrook slumped to 196 all out from 42 overs.

However, a combined Sudbrook team enjoyed better fortunes on Sunday when they beat Sully by 60 runs at Mill Lane in a Welsh Cup clash.

Mickey Martin made 147 not out with Kel Stevens (82) and Mike Burton (38 not out) making setting a target beyond Sully’s reach.
