South East Wales Cricket League Division One - Radyr 1st XI (151 all out) lost to Chepstow 1st XI (323-3) by 172 runs

CHEPSTOW opener Carwyn James was dismissed on 99 at Radyr, but his teammates picked up the challenge to make sure of victory.

“It was a bitter-sweet moment because it’s the first time I have been out on 99 and something I don’t want to make a habit of. But most importantly it was a great win for the boys,” James said later.

In what skipper Jason Dobbie described as “an excellent batting display” James was well supported by fellow opener Dave Teague who made 82.

Mitchell Harris (79 not out) and Oliver Thornhill (28 not out) saw their side through to a match-winning total.

In reply, Chepstow’s bowlers were in control from the off, with Malith Madurasinghe having Rhys Lloyd (9) caught behind by Teague and Paul Swingwood taking the next two wickets for just two runs.

Although two batsmen offered some resistance, Dobbie trapped Rhodri Lewis lbw for 36 and Harris claimed the wicket of Jonathan Corden for 46, caught by James.

“It was a magnificent knock by Carwyn and Dave continued his good form,” Dobbie said later.

“It was also great to see Mitchell make good runs ahead of next Saturday’s must-win match against Usk.”

Dobbie was Chepstow’s main wicket taker, claiming 3-31 from his 10 overs but Swingwood’s 2-23 off six overs and Harris’ 2-12 in 2.4 overs helped end Radyr’s misery in the 37th over.
